About Us

Who are we?

A quality brewery and food venue (that loves coffee, too). The Moruya Artisan Factory is set in the iconic historical building, the Old Moruya Cheese Factory built in 1930. After 50 years of private ownership, the Moruya Cheese Factory is now home to Quantum Brewery and GraniteTown CafeBar.

Offering more than an experience, you can sit among our beautiful gardens in our stunning outdoor space. Inside the Cafe Bar, you are surrounded by interesting vintage artifacts and memorabilia. Or take in the amazing views from the mezzanine CafeBar, which looks over Quantum Brewery.

It is well worth a visit to see the sympathetic preservation of a significant historical building and the blending of the fabulous one-of-a-kind building into the next era. The fusion of the Old Moruya Cheese Factory and the new GraniteTown CafeBar and Quantum Brewery is open to the community for all to enjoy.

Pay it forward

Help us support our community's veterans and emergency workers (e.g. police, ambulance, fire). We offer a pay-it-forward opportunity: simply purchase an additional coffee, and we will pay it forward to one of our uniformed first responders.

Our History

In November 1892, the Moruya Cooperative Butter and Cheese Factory was established with the first factory opened at 38 Hawdon Street in Moruya, taking milk from twelve shareholding farmers. Within months, that number had increased to twenty-six, supplying 800 gallons (3,000L) of milk daily. Thankfully, the unwavering faith of our patrons spurred our remarkable growth. This trust has been the driving force that helped us establish Quantum Brewery and Granitetown Cafe Bar in Moruya as part of continuing our heritage of serving our people.

1

Heritage

We are dedicated to respecting the rich heritage of our local history and highlighting the historical significance the site of The Old Cheese Factory holds. Our efforts aim to raise awareness among people and enhance community appreciation for this remarkable location named Moruya.

2

Sustainability

We strive to build a fully sustainable, multifaceted business that encapsulates the philosophies of The Old Cheese Factory Cooperative and of 100+ farmers' approach to cheese production. We prioritise sustainability, practising self-reliance by collecting rainwater from the roof to support our h2o usage.

3

Technology

Our aim is to utilize modern technology to improve our production processes and challenge our minds to refine our operations consistently. We employ a ventilation system to manage the cheese curing room temperatures before refrigeration and are one of the first to install a cryovac machine.
